My name is Johan Broeksteeg. Since 2023 I know that Africa feels like home to me. That is why there was no doubt for me to throw myself into a 'Gambia adventure' from the very first moment I heard about Soforal from my good friend Gerdie.
Now that I am sitting in the restaurant of Soforal and looking out over the garden, I feel the wind, I hear the birds and the trees, I see the beauty.
And I am looking forward to it.

Far away from mass-tourism, our eco-lodge resides in a rural area. Soforal lodge breathes art and culture. The authentic Diola village Berending with its hospitable inhabitants is on walking distance and also the beach side of the Atlantic Ocean is nearby.

The people of Berending are truly proud of their village and Diola culture. Quite rightly. From Soforal a ten minute walk brings you to Berending for a meet & greet with its inhabitants. Our staffs will be happy to accompany you for visits to the hospital, the schools, the community women's garden and the sports fields.
